Recently voted as one of the Top 100 hotels in the world by UK magazine The Sunday Times Traveller – Maalu Maalu Resort and Spa, Passekudah, Sri Lanka is a stunning place to unwind and relax. The luxury resort offers five star luxury hotel accommodation and warm Sri Lankan hospitality. Passekudah is located on the East Coast near Batticaloa and is between Trincomalee in the North East and Arugam Bay in the South East. The resort is designed in a semi-circle facing the sea which allows for spectacular views of the Indian Ocean from every angle and has an infinity pool with a broad timber deck as the central point. Maalu Maalu features clear blue skies, super sunny sand beaches, and incredibly pristine blue water which is ideal of swimming, snorkeling and diving.
A newly built hotel, Maalu Maalu opened in June 2011 and maintains a strict eco-friendly policy. The resort is designed in accordance with the green building guidelines on energy and environment. The resort’s name comes from the Sri Lankan term ‘Maalu Maalu’ (meaning ‘fish fish’ when translated) and is a calling regularly heard from the local fisherman when selling their day’s fresh catch. The Resort and Spa has a remote laid-back feel and is ideal for couples on a romantic honeymoon but also has accommodation options suited for families with children and offers chalets & suites with connecting doorways.
Built on the concept of a traditional Sri Lankan fishing village, Maalu Maalu Resort and Spa has public spaces and accommodation in the form of eco-friendly timber chalets with thatched roofs. The simple eco-friendly architecture is inspired by the wooden clad dwellings of a typical fisherman’s hut. The 40 rooms are furnished with modern amenities and the adjoining public areas are designed to seamlessly blend with the surrounding environment.

Maalu Maalu Resort and Spa, Passekudah consists of 40 chalets, each designed to accommodate every luxury you may anticipate yet it is presented with an understated elegance which is a signature of the resort. The cajan roof which is a high and sloping enables the rooms to be bright, airy makes for a cool interior while the wooden structure and authentic Sri Lankan furnishing give the rooms an artistic touch.

Rooms are equipped with Air Conditioning, overhead fan, LCD TV with satellite channels, tea/coffee facility, mini-bar and safe. Ensuite bathrooms are contemporary in design with polished cement walls and flooring, rain head showers and twin vanities. Interiors are furnished with double or twin beds dressed in crisp white linen. All rooms are designed to have a fantastic view of Passekudah bay.
  • Deluxe Chalets:These are two storey chalets each with one double room on the ground floor opening out to a private terrace and a double room on the upper floor opening out to a balcony. The upstairs bedroom has a separate entrance. Of the 24 Deluxe Chalets, eight have interconnecting doors suitable for families.
  • Deluxe Chalets with Attic:There are eight chalets that have a double bedroom on the ground floor and an attic room furnished with twin beds that are accessed via a set of steep steps. These chalets are ideal for families with older children or friends travelling together.
  • Ocean Suites and Panoramic Suites: These eight suites are located at the edge of the sea and are built in clusters of four. Additional facilities for the suites include a steam room shared by the cluster, private therapy beds on request, Jacuzzi, exclusive private dining deck, and 24 hour butler service.

Karadiya – Main Restaurant
The Karadiya Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers a scintillating array of authentic Sri Lankan food as well as international cuisine. Sea food is is the restaurants main specialty. Guest can ask the chef for the catch of the day or order à la carte. Enjoy your meal accompanied by a splendid beach view, and the cool ocean breeze.

Main Bar
The open plan bar situated across the main restaurant is a great place to relax, reflect and enjoy your drink of choice and take in the incredible view. The bar is operational throughout the day and is the ideal place for quiet reflection or pleasant conversation.

Habala and Ruwala
For a unique experience, enjoy your meal or a quiet drink at ‘Habala’ and ‘Ruwala’ the hotel’s poolside bar and restaurants which are architecturally designed to curiously resemble two traditional fishing boats.

Jazz Bar
Wind down after an eventful day at the jazz bar and shisha lounge. Simply sit back and let the music sooth your soul.

Club
